Review: Short Sexy Hair Slept In Texture Cream

I’ve recently embarked on the path of the “short hairstyle” and wanted to make the path an adventurous one.

In years prior, I’ve taken for granted how “easy” it is to style long hair- how flexible and versatile it is. I cut it off because, while I do have thick hair that makes casual wear sans product easy, my hair likes to knot and become unmanageable at the drop of a dime. The appeal of long, voluptuous hair is a bit diminished when, after combing and brushing, small birds nests seem to appear in the comb/brush. And don’t you forget the cost of all these expensive hair masks (masques) that, while helpful, do little to ease the pain (especially financial pain- right in the wallet).

So, I’ve delved into short-hair-land once again in my life. Last time I was lazy, and looked it. I fully intended to style my hair and use product to make it funky and fun. Then all of a sudden- I didn’t.

Enter the first of a line of products recommended by the gal who cut my hair.

Short Sexy Hair, Lounging on a straw hat and burned up by pixlr-o-matic.

The first time I used it, I used it on damp hair. The initial results were astounding. My verbal response: “Whoa! I need to chill this out just a bit!” There was quite a bit of volume, and that messy look was very well done.

That volume, however, doesn’t last long. I have had to add hairspray to keep the messy, tousled look going, and it even says it provides a small amount of hold. After researching the product a little further, it is recommended as a good product for “second-day style,” and that’s probably pretty accurate. Using it directly after a wash on clean damp hair simply weighs the style down. I have had to supplement it with hairspray, and by the end of the day the results are pretty flat (though it still accentuates choppy layers, if you have them). On second day dry hair, it keeps the tousled look going for quite a bit longer.

I think this is a good starter investment, and it blends well with other products, but so far as a standalone product I don’t think it quite holds up.

I still think this is a fun product, but I don’t know that I would buy it again when there are so many other products out there are supposedly have much better long-wear results than this.

What products work best for you?  Specifically in terms of products for that choppy, messy look I am so fond of? I’m always looking for new things to try, and if you have tips and feedback, feel free to share them here!
